Flamenco: 1/19/2009

Today was great. Around 8PM I went for a bottle of wine and some tapas with some friends. Then at 9, our Guardian Angel group met up for drinks and a Flamenco Show. This was extremely authentic and an enlightening performance. The place we went to see this show was called "Tarantos"-- TAKE A LOOK!

My flamenco video: Must see on my facebook profile, video does not load here.

...After Flamenco our group did Sangria, and then it was the end of the night. It was a great Monday night!

Weekend wrap up

So, Thursday was a big night for "Welcome Week". Tons of different programs had just been getting started, and we went to a club called "Sutton". This place was very classy, and extremely fun. There was tons of house music, great amounts of Spanish kids, and a cool dance show. Overall, it was a great time. Then Friday was class, and I also came down with a cold. Therefore, I decided to stay in and try to take it easy. Then Saturday rolled around and my guy friends all had a day trip. So, I met some girls I know from a different program and walked La Rambla: (a giant street running through the center of the city with tons of touristic attractions ranging from great food, to quaint shopping, and an abundance of culturally diverse people- one of the most famous attractions in the world!)and also the Med. Boardwalk. This was so awesome and very pretty. To imagine walking the Mediterranean boardwalk and to actually do it are two completley different things, the experience is simply priceless. Overall, it turned out to be an amazing weekend. Sunday I also went down to the beach once again and tried to take everything in. You can never get enough of sitting on the Mediterranean sand and looking into the water, no matter what month it is. Throughout the weekend I explored my neighborhood and discovered tons of local markets, restaurants, and the port/board-walk. I had a great time finding new places to hangout, eat, and get drinks.

Following up the exam

So today was my first exam in my intensive Spanish course. It was difficult, but I did fairly well. We graded most of it and I have an 86% thus far so that is good! Anyways, I also had my first turkey sandwich since I've been here. The meats here are very different, but today I had some Pavo and it was great. With all that said, its officially Thursday night, a big night for los jovenes de Espana, meaning a bunch of people are going out drinking. Then there are two big parites at two different clubs, and tonight I am going to head to Sutton, one of Barcelona's most highly noted. There will be less Americans here so that should be fun and different finally!! Overall, I have been here for nearly two weeks and time is beginning to pick up, but this city is very very cool and I look forward to expanding my horizons even more and begin traveling Europe. Some "Welcome Week" night life pictures will be thrown up sometime over the weekend, so stay tuned and take care all!

Welcome week and more

So last night was the official kickoff of "Welcome Week" so we went to club Lotus and there were more Americans than I've ever seen in my life. It ended up being a great time. Furthermore, today at class, I was there at 2:10 (class starts at 2). The reason I was late was because I got to the metro and my pass was empty, and my credit cards did not work in the machines to buy a new one, so I had to then walk to class, and god knows how I even found it. Then, midway through, the teacher came up to me and told me she gave me an absence. No need to worry b/c we are allowed 2, but it bothered me and explaining my gringo self did nothing. Anyways, tonight is another party so a big crew is heading there. But then tomorrow and Thursday I have quite big days including meetings, an exam, joining the gym and buying some things, so I wont be going out every night this week, dont worry!! Anyways, hope all is well back home with everyone and I will be talking with you sometime soon.

Last nights journey..

So Josh and I decided to have a sleepover last night after we went out for our first Sangria, which is amazinggg!!! Cannot wait to come drink it back home this summer with you, mom. So 4 pitchers later, we were like okay, we will sleep at Josh's. We get on the metro to go to my house to gather my necessitites and realize the Metro closes at 12, it was 11:47. So, me and Josh got off, sprinted to my place, and sprinted back and made it by 11:59. I do not know if it was worth it, but it was crazy and my first cardio since ive been here, so be proud dad. Overall, it was hilarious and we had a great time at his house simply hanging out. Tonight is officially welcome week and might be pretty wild considering each night there is a free huge party at a different location. Also today, during the day, I went to La Boqueria Market on la Rambla and it was amazing! Biggest open market ever with tonsss of fresh fruit and what not. Very cool. So yes, this week is going to be very busy, I plan on doing a bit of shopping, of course my hw, and having some fun nights. I hopefully will be loading some pictures to my facebook from my first day here, and now will be bringing my camera with me, so stay current with that stuff! Adioss
